Just Dance

So I love to dance and haven't been doing hardly any at all the past few years except at a couple of weddings. I don't want to go to the bar scene and haven't learned to salsa yet, so I haven't been. Lame excuse, but oh well. So one of my New Year's goals was to get out and dance more since it makes me feel really alive. Like I do when I'm roaming around the mountains. So I found this event called Just Dance here in Vancouver. It's an alternative type of crowd with no smoking or alcohol. It's just to be able to relax, be yourself and just dance. They have a meditation before the dance if you choose to go to that, which we didn't get there for. The $10 entrance charge goes to good causes also. We had a great time on Fri night, even with my cold. I will definitely go back since it's easy to get to and it's also a place that you'd feel comfortable with going alone. I'm very glad I checked it out.

Stanley Park

I went for a run in Stanley Park yesterday. It was my first time there since it had been hit with 2 really bad windstorms. They had the whole park closed for a while and have reopened the roads, but the seawall isn't fully open yet. I was shocked at the extend of damage done. It was absolutely unbelievable. It made us just want to stand by the trees and have a vigil. Not being a horticulturalist, it'll be interesting to see the effect on the kind of growth that will happen since there will be a lot more sunlight getting it. Anyways, I was very sad to see such a beautiful place see so much damage.

Last King of Scotland

Just saw this movie last night. It's about Idi Amin who was the Ugandan leader in the 1970s. It portrays what was going on in the country through the eyes of his personal physician who happened to be Scottish, hence the name of the movie. It was horrific what was going on there, but wasn't a gory movie. They were focused more on relationships, etc. I thought it was a very well done movie. Both leads were great. Forrest Whittaker won a Golden Globe for his performance also. Since I've never been one to read history books, this is a great way for me to learn more about history and be grateful for what I have.
