Moving to Kelowna

So I'm making a big move. I have been thinking of moving to the Okanagan for a few years now. I tried to get Sean to move there with me a few years ago with no luck. When we broke up, I actually had a couple of job interviews up there, but the right job didn't happen so I stayed in Vancouver. From my earlier postings, having been evicted, recently single and not quite back full-time at my position in North Vancouver, I figured that maybe now could be a time to make a move. I called my top clinic of choice in Kelowna out of the blue and someone had just left there, but they hadn't advertised yet. That person was parttime, but they would be willing to accomodate the right person full time. After meeting with the owners and getting along well, I was faced with the real possibility of moving!!! Did I really want to?? Why did I want to?? Leave my friends??? I finally decided that the worst case scenario is that I give it a year and come back if I don't like it. I would have to lose my position at the clinic that I've been at for 7 years. It's been a great clinic overall, but there are lots of jobs available if I came back. I figure it's a 7 year itch :).

I start work in mid-November there. Still need a place to live, but will stay with a friend for a couple of weeks if needed until I find a place. It's all happening very quickly.

So for those of you who have no idea where the $%^%$ Kelowna is, here's a run down. It's 4 hours inland from Vancouver. It's got all the outdoors stuff - well most of it - like the coast - of course no ocean, but is on a big lake. Click on the previous link for some great shots on the photo gallery. It's much, much drier which I'm really looking forward to and it actually gets some heat in the summer. It really is like the desert and Napa Valley rolled into one. There are tons of wineries, the Kettle Valley rail for biking (good for families), lots of hiking etc. There are a lot of people retiring here and someone just told me it's the fastest growing city in Canada. It's around 110,000 so I'm hoping it will be big enough for me as I've never lived anywhere that small. West Jet flies from London/Toronto to Kelowna for all of you Ontario-ites. So that's what I've been trying to figure out the past couple of weeks so I haven't written here. I'm hoping the man of my dreams will be there and angry that I never got there sooner :).
